Hey Mickey,

Synchronization is my number one priority (was working on it this morning, in fact, although it's going to be a while before it's ready to see the light of day; I'd rather do it right than do it quick).

I hope you enjoy TapNote! Please let me know if you run into anything that you don't like, or have any ideas for things that would make it even better!

I have bought your app on the strength of this article alone. I've had the Pre just a few weeks, and started to use "Sorting Thoughts" because it was free and then I had to switch phones (loose battery) and was really looking for a SimpleNote app (thanks to LifeHacker) but deciding between TapNote and Notes. I have done some development work in JavaScript and so found this very interesting. Thanks for the insights, the info, and the code examples.

I don't think I'll pursue developing anything myself, but will save my coffee money for anything else you release.

I would be interested in EverNote integration but will fire off an e-mail to them in the mean time. Maybe a SimpleNote integration as well? (All the cool developers are doing it!)

Sadly, I'm not really sure how many apps a successful app can expect because so far TouchNote has been anything but successful (the topic of my next planned TouchNote-related blog post, actually). :-)

Based on TweetMe's price and speed of climbing the hot apps list, though, I'd guess that the really successful ones can expect in the 600-1000 sales range as a starting point (for TweetMe, that would be in the first week or two). I don't have a very good idea beyond that, though.

I think basically you can make a pretty chunk of cash if you've got a really popular app, but not anything crazy like occasionally happens on the iPhone.

HP's public announcements have been somewhat scattered, but so far as I know they are envisioning using WebOS on a large range of web-connected devices with smartphones being one piece of the puzzle. Since WebOS is currently optimized for smartphones, I expect they will be a fairly large piece of the puzzle to start, but time will tell. Since the acquisition hasn't been completed yet, we're still several months out from really seeing how HP will handle Palm.

A really good article, thanks Ian. Although I've stuck with the iPhone, I find the details of developing for WebOS interesting of themselves.

I hope that TouchNote gets the attention it deserves. How many sales could a successful app hope to get? Here in the UK I don't think I've seen a single Palm Pre or Pixi (Plus or otherwise) despite the fact that O2 are selling it. And what is the future for WebOS on the phone now that HP have bought it?
